The number of people who moved out of New Jersey continues to outpace those relocating to the Garden State, but the spread between those numbers reached a decade low last year, according to U.S. Census Bureau data.
Between July 2020 and July 2021, the net loss of residents to relocations was 39,954 people, according to the U.S. Census, which tracks that figure as net domestic migrations.
From June 2018 to July 2019, New Jersey had 48,946 more people move out-of-state than people moving into New Jersey. Reliable data for the intervening year (2019-2020) is not available.
